Busiest month ever for cash markets -23.1 million cash transactions, up 24.1% year-on-year. Busiest January ever for interest rate and commodity products - 64.3 million derivatives contracts traded, up 13% year-on-year.





Cash products

Euronext cash markets registered their busiest month ever in January 2007 with 23.1 million transactions completed, up 24.1% on the same month last year, surpassing the previous record level of 22.1 million transactions registered in May 2006. This represents a record daily average of more than 1 million transactions, up 21.8% on the 2006 daily average of 861,000.

Shares
22 million transactions were registered in shares in January 2007, up 24.3% on the same month in 2006, representing a record average of 1 million transactions completed every day.

Initial Public Offerings
There were 7 IPOs on all Euronext markets in January 2007, making it the busiest January for 6 years. 5 of those 7 IPOs were on Alternext, which now has 80 companies representing a total market capitalization of EUR 3.8 billion.

NextTrack & NextWarrants
Year-on-year transactions were up 61% on NextTrack and up 22.1% on NextWarrants, which includes warrants and certificates.

Derivatives products

Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded 64.3 million futures and options contracts during the month of January, representing an average daily volume of 2.9 million contracts. This is up 13% on January 2006.

Interest rate and commodity products traded a record January volume with interest rate products trading 37.8 million contracts, up 24% on January 2006 and commodity products a record 808,000 contracts, also up 16%.

On 11 January the exchange traded its busiest day ever with a record daily volume of 5.7 million futures and options contracts (the previous record of 5.1 million set in July 2005).

Euronext.liffe’s MTS Bond Index Futures, launched on 24 January 2007, got off to a good start with all four contracts having already traded. Total volume since 24 January is over 2,500 contracts.
