NYSE Euronext Reports Record Transaction Volume for August 2007

Record transaction volumes on its U.S. and European cash equities and derivatives exchanges in August produced the busiest trading month ever for NYSE Euronext (NYX), the world’s most liquid and most diversified global exchange group.

In August, NYSE Group handled a record total of 3.6 billion shares for year-over-year gains of 62.8%. In Europe, more than 33 million transactions were recorded on Euronext’s four cash equities markets, up 110.5% year-over-year. The company’s European derivatives markets traded a record 103.9 million contracts for the month, for gains of 75.0% year-over-year. In the U.S., NYSE Arca reported 1.4 million equity option contracts executed daily on average in August, up 103% year-over-year.

"In addition to record transaction volume in August, we also experienced record system activity and message traffic on our trading platforms, which performed exceptionally well," said Nelson Chai, Chief Financial and Executive Vice President, NYSE Euronext.

Cash Products

Euronext

- Volumes on Euronext’s cash markets more than doubled in August, with 33.3 million transactions completed, up 110.5% from the same month last year, making the month the busiest ever.

- In total, more than 210 million cash transactions were registered on Euronext since the beginning of the year, up 42.9% from the same period in 2006.

- In August 2007, Euronext’s cash markets broke several significant records with respect to trading activity, volume and systems capacity. Five new top ten volume days were registered during the month, with more than 2.4 million transactions completed on Aug. 17 – the busiest day ever for Euronext’s markets.

- Euronext reported 31.9 million equities transactions in August 2007, up 112.0% from the same month last year, bringing the total number of equity transactions since January 2007 to 201 million, up 43.4% on the same period last year.

- Year-on-year transactions on Euronext were up 337.1% for ETFs and up 76.9% for Structured Products, which include warrants and certificates. Since the beginning of the year, transactions have improved 3.3% for Bonds.

NYSE Group

NYSE Group exchanges reported a record 3.6 billion shares handled per day in August, up 62.8% year-over-year and 17.1% year-to-date.
During August, NYSE Group exchanges reached new all-time records in daily, weekly and monthly trading volumes. NYSE Group’s U.S. cash equities trading operations reported a combined volume of over 22 billion shares traded during the week-ended Aug. 10, its highest ever. On Aug. 16, NYSE Group recorded its most active trading day ever in its U.S. cash equities trading operation with 5.39 billion shares changing hands.

NYSE Group once again processed more transactions than any other U.S. exchange group with a total of 74.9 billion shares traded and 82.8 billion shares handled during the month. August’s record trading volumes and message traffic highs produced the three most active weeks and seven of the top ten most active days in NYSE Group history.

NYSE Group’s operations in NYSE-listed securities reported 2.8 billion shares handled per day, up 68.7% from the same month last year and 21.1% year-to-date.

As the largest liquidity pool for ETFs in the U.S., NYSE Group reported 453 million shares handled daily, up 204.5% from the same period last year and 58.4% year-to-date.

Listings

Euronext

- Five IPOs were listed on Euronext’s markets in August 2007, bringing the total number of IPOs since the beginning of the year to a record 101, as compared to 84 during the same period in 2006, with €5.6/$7.7 billion raised in connection with new listings.

- Additionally, one new ETF was listed on NextTrack in August, bringing the total number of new ETF listings since the beginning of the year to 53.

NYSE Group

- In August, there were 32 new listings on NYSE Group markets, including funds and structured products. Among the 12 new listings by operating companies were eight IPOs (excluding funds) that raised a total of €2.5/$3.4 billion.

- The eight IPOs by operating companies included four non-US companies that raised a total of €1.4/$1.9 billion in proceeds.

- There were also ten new ETF listings that joined NYSE Group markets in the month of August, as well as ten structured products.
